About
Hi!
I’m Elcy and I’m a graphic designer and animator based in Brisbane who can help you create all your digital marketing materials for new launches, events, new businesses, or already setup businesses.
Childhood
Growing up in Beirut (Lebanon), I always had two passions, one for arts and the other for mathematics. They were the only two areas that allowed my imagination to run wild in order to reach my goals. Algebra, in particular, was more like magic to me. The more complicated the symbols were and the more the teachers talked of infinite numbers and impossible numbers, the more my eyes lit up.
It wasn’t very common for a teenage girl to love maths in the 90s since it was a field more attributed with men than women. So I was always seen as a unicorn to the people who knew this about me and I was always put in a spot to explain or even defend my passion for maths. In hindsight, I can probably say that this was when my feminist spirit was born (before I’ve even heard of the word “feminism”) because I could never understand why a young girl who loves maths could shock people.
Education
After I passed my General Sciences high school baccalaureate, I was accepted into 3 majors of my choice in university: Graphic Design, Psychology and Computer Sciences. With the guidance and advice of my forever supporting parents, I pursued my BFA in Graphic Design at the American University of Beirut and graduated in 2012. In this course, I was exposed to so many different design fields and electives leading me to develop a new passion for the digital world and all of its applications: Illustration, Animation, Photography, Filmmaking and Interactive Media. For my final year project and dissertation, I researched and designed a Video Game that would encourage young girls' interests in mathematics and technology.
After getting a couple years of career experience, I took my education a step further and pursued my Master's degree in Computer Animation and Visual Effects at the University of Bradford in 2015, where I learnt 3D Animation, Stereoscopy, Motion Capture, and Visual Effects, graduating top of my class with Distinction.
For my Final Project, I sought to find visual effects and film editing techniques that would pose no harm to photosensitive epileptic patients while staying visually appealing and emotionally engaging.
Career
I have had the pleasure to work with so many global brands over the course of my career, such as AUBMC, Merck, Sanofi, Kaplan, McGraw Hill, PwC, Twitter, and City Centre. Some of these were in full-time agency jobs while others where through freelance contracts here and there. I have also helped a lot of entrepreneurs design their brands and promote their small businesses.
I have designed infographics, websites, mobile Apps, logos & brand identities, brochures & pamphlets, static games, animations, 3D animated greetings, social media posts & marketing campaigns. I have also shot documentary photos and videos of people, events and businesses.
My creative process always involves researching, brainstorming and sketching, making each piece of my work creatively and legally unique. A work ethic I am proud to have along with my hawk-eye for details and my sharp computer skills.
I am always up-to-date with the latest artistic trends and technologies, an event I find pleasantly challenging. Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Premiere Pro, Audition, Autodesk Maya, and Cinema 4D are the computer tools I most use. This enables my clients to always receive exactly what they are looking for and be on top of their competitors in their industries.
Hobbies
In my free time, I like to draw, take photographs, play the guitar, update my blog, my Insta channel, and expand my skills in animation, game design, social psychology, and technology. I enjoy combining hand-made graphics with computer-generated ones to create interesting results. I also enjoy integrating bold messages in my work that can emotionally move the viewer.
